The Company:
The renowned Energy trading Company, part of a large locally owned Conglomerate

The Role:

The Jet A1 Trader will be responsible for developing profitable commercial opportunities within the Trading team. This requires developing strong relationships with producers, refiners, and transporters within the region of coverage; the ability to identify profitable opportunities in a competitive environment; develop a strong understanding of area-wide logistics and identifying and managing the associated trading risks that these opportunities create.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Physically trade Jet A1 as well as its components within the targeted region and, hedge/optimize positions in the paper market
  • Monitor price arbitrage opportunities – use futures/derivatives markets to hedge risk and trade speculatively
  • Develop and manage Jet A1 storage positions utilizing storage locations
  • Evaluate markets and market trends – communicate with other Supply & Trading offices
  • Ensure all trading activities are conducted within appropriate delegations of authority and conform to Risk Manual Guidelines
  • Negotiate terms and spot contracts for sales and purchases – ensure each contract is performed in accordance with agreed terms
  • Keep up to date with market conditions – formulate an optimal refinery plan – identify market opportunities
  • Remain current on the legal and economic issues affecting the trading industry
  • Conduct day-to-day activities of crude oil trades including track and monitor global market movements whilst, accountable for making instant trade decisions – source, develop and manage domestic and international supplier relationships to ensure uninterrupted oil supply
  • Contribute towards the development of business contracts including; evaluation and development of new opportunities and shorts

Qualifications & Desired Skills:

  • 5+ years’ experience in petroleum products trading, ideally focused on Jet A1 with strong knowledge of managing storage facilities
  • Excellent understanding of paper trading – hedging strategies – arbitrage play
  • Strong knowledge of the domestic and international gasoline markets including refinery production and commercial operations/shipping documentation
  • Degree level (or equivalent) Chemical Engineering or economic/business qualification
  • Dubai based but need to be flexible with travelling (25%) also, a flexible approach to working hours is vital to accommodate the significant variation in workloads associated with a busy trading operation
  • A self-starter with excellent communication skills and the ability to multi-task in a dynamic high-pressure team environment
